The Hidden Fortress
(The first Kurosawa film I remember watching, and still my favorite. Since Kurosawa doesn’t really do female leads, that might be why I liked this so much. All of the main characters were likeable. I loved Princess Yuki yelling everything like an angry dog. The intense look on her face. The beginning of my fangirling of Toshiro Mifune. I don’t really go for the gruff, manly-man types, but Mifune gives an intensity and depth to his characters that doesn’t make them seem like muscleheads. Also, even that scruffy beard (which I actually like) can’t hide the fact he’s really handsome. After watching his other movies, I really enjoyed the fact that Kurosawa often had the same actors in his films.)
